Could Sarah Palin cut-it as a working mom when the job is V.P.?

Working moms abound in all walks of life and most make it work for their families. Is Vice President of the United States any different?

What do you think?

Is Sarah Palin getting a bum wrap with all of the criticism or should she have called it a day as Governor of Alaska?

I don't care whether our VP is a man or a woman, a Democrat or Republican, as long as they are smart, quick-thinkng, strategic and portray a positive image and the leadership qualities we need. But watching Sarah Palin in her media interviews, it's clear she doesn't know the issues, is not eloquent and can't lead. She flubs her lines, gets flustered and doesn't know the answers to too many questions. I'm worried that she wouldn't last 2 minutes in a meeting of world powers. Does anyone else share my concerns?

My husband and i have done a lot of research on her. I wasn't real "jazzed" about this election until she was picked as VP. I would have voted for Mckain but out of all the Republican nominees that were...he wasn't my fav. No biggie. I don't like Obama or his ideals (way too liberal) I also want to point out that VP IS a posistion you can step down from as is president, so for all those who think her family will suffer...i believe should it come to that she always has a choice. Her title would not be written in stone:) I also think we should give our running members a little more credit in general, even the ones we don't agree with. I find it hard to believe that any would consider running without having scanned all the issues regarding family problems, stretching onesself too thin and past history long before stepping up to run.

I am discouraged to see that so many posters would base their vote for president on such superficial things as whether the vice presidential hopeful knows the price of Cheerios, or can manage her family. When did it come to pass that citizens of this country want a president who they can have a beer with or pick up kids from hockey with?

In response to your post, I just wanted to add that I was voting for John McCain long before he picked Sarah Palin, she just sweetened the deal for me. I completely agree with you when you say that we need to vote for someone (excuse me for paraphrasing) with experience, integrity and proven to be a leader. This is part of the reason I would never vote for Senator Obama. He has no record, no real experience and I am not willing to leave our country in his unexperienced hands. I don't want to start a huge debate here, just wanted to clarify that we are not voting based on silly principles or idealized notions, at least I'm not. My vote is based on so many other issues, many based on deep moral convictions that would never allow me to vote for a candidate(s) that embrace such liberal and immoral positions.

What a great country! I love that we can debate openly!

Palin is an amazing modern woman who is not affraid to stand up for what is right. I personally have made the choice to stay home with my children but I believe she has a great support system and will do great as VP. It is time that this country has someone willing to speak truth without trying to please every person. In the past "we the people" made decicions to govern ourselves and today the all mighty government has too much control. I would be proud to have her in the white house.

yes it is harsh. But the truth is not always sun &cookies! I have not judged my vote of gender, race or personal status.. My husband & I talked alot over who to vote for. It was not that hard to make a choice. Yes Obama has kids to but I am a big Michele fan. I am a firm believer that moms (or dads) should stay home with children untill school age. I know thats a whole can of worms. & I know some people don't have a choice & I commend people for doing what they have to to get by. (& no we are not finacialy "sound". we rent & have 1 car, so we are not people with money who have made opionions without being in those shoes)

Angelkissed--huh? I never said anything about her controlling her daughter...what you said had no real connection to what I was talking about. Kids will do what the hell they want yeah...duh. My husband was a teenage dad so was my mom & every other person in my family. I don't believe in abortion as a form of birth control. (I think abortion should be done only when needed for a very short list of reasons) so yeah she should keep her baby! She's old enough to have nookie then..well...I did not judge her or her mother on that at all & wonder whty the rest of america is? The question was to do with Palin as a mother & VP. Lets start one about Obama!!

I have nothing aginst Palin as a person. She is not the type of person I would "hang out with" So why would I want her as VP? & Change is needed. Bush has about done us in. We need to get a grip before this country falls!

When did it come to pass that citizens of this country want a president who they can have a beer with or pick up kids from hockey with? Those kinds of people are friends, not someone I want to be leading me as a citizen. Confidence is one thing, and Sarah Palin has a compelling presence, but for the national ticket, I'm much more persuaded by a candidate, who let's remember, will become the leader of the largest economy and the largest military in the world, who is learned, wise, broadly experienced, measured in his/her responses, truly gets governing all the people, and with respect to foreign affairs, has enough cultural competency to understand where other nations/entities are coming from. Sarah Palin is a lightweight, and apparently is totally amenable to being "handled" by cynical, manipulative political operatives, and will easily join the good ole boys network, this time with lipstick.

Sarah Palin probably asked herself the same questions as above before commiting to the McCain campaign. If she feels she can be effective as VP, a wife and a mother then it is not my position to think any different. Her position is more high profile than most but as a former teacher turned stay at home mom, I know it's possible to manage a career and family, especially with a supportive husband. The beautry in Sarah Palin is her confidence and resolve. Although I wasn't happy with either presidential canidate in the beginning, adding Gov. Palin to his side makes McCain more desirable. My vote is a moral vote and I vote for life, liberty and justice!

Wow! bubbagaloosch that's harsh. That is her family your talking about. That is her daughters life, the choices she has made not her mothers choice to have pregnant teenager. Whether your a working mom or not, some teens have sex out of marriage even being taught the the right way. Its their choice, and their story they are writing for their life. Not the parents. Palin has guts, and great views. Why should being a mom make you stay home with your kids? Jenbell is right we wouldn't being having this conversation if it was a man. McCain/Palin were in Media PA last night around were I live. My husband and I went to go listen to them speak. She is spunky for sure! Lots of fun!

I believe that Sarah has proven to be a strong leader that walks in integrity and because of that, I don't think she would step into something unless she had already weighed the cost. Yes, I do beleive that her job will be demanding at times but it looks like she has a good support group at home and I believe she is at the right place at the right time. Visiongoggles

I commend her for all she has been through, and with help from her family....I know she will take us far. Go McCain/Palin! Nickalli and JenBell...I totally agree with you.

I'm guessing she has a nanny! Go Sarah, with help at home, and a supportive family she can do anything!

JenniferDavis | September 22, 2008 | reply

I will definitely be voting for McCain/Palin and am excited to see what she will bring to the position. I'm tired of the "change" talk, unless you think more government in your life spending your money they way they want is the change you are looking for. I think that she may actually know what a box of cereal now costs - I doubt you could say that about any of the other candidates!! I'm also certain she had a long discussion with her family before concidering this position and wouldn't be there if they didn't back her 100%. Her life experience is the "change" I'd like to see in Washington!

Nickalli | September 22, 2008 | reply

If she were a man would we even be talking about this? I think Gov. Palin will do what all working moms have to do, balance their personal lives with their professional ones. I certainly support her trying to do so. I think she has shown that her family is more important than anything. That is the kind of person I want along side my President. Senator Obama has two little girls as well and he is running for President. Will he have enough time to be a working dad when his job is PRESIDENT?

JenBell | September 22, 2008 | reply

I don't care for Sarah Palin. I comend her for supporting her daughter in choosing to keep her baby. (because abortion is not a form of birth contriol) But not only does she have a newer little guy, he is special needs. That on top of needing to focus on helping her teenage daughter go threw a really hard time plus tending to her other kids....well I don't want her for VP. (even if I did agree with her views) She has to much going on at home & her kids will end up suffereing. I'm voting for change. & pray that she will take care of her own home before she tries to tell me how to run mine.
