6 month infant sleep training

Just got back from vacation and trying to get my daughter back on a sleep schedule (she's waking 5 times a night) and moving her to her crib. Last night we started the first of our changes. She went to bed at 8:15, we rocked her the first time she woke, the second time we gave her a bottle (at midnight) and she slept until 4:30 at which time I nursed her. We're doing this again tonite and for several nights to see if we can get her out of so many night wakngs and into a more livable plan....

Every baby is different, but the biggest thing is consistency. Babies can learn bad habits quickly, but they can unlearn them as well with a little parental guidance. Have your gameplan ready before night hits and you are too exhausted to decide what to do.

True, there is no one way, but, after a very rough start (my daughter was VERY colicky- the Dr said the worst she'd ever seen!) we had her sleeping through the night at 5 mths. At 4 mths we started "Dream Feedings". We put her to bed at 8:30, got her up quietly in the dark between 10 +11 and put her right back to bed. Then at 5-6 mths we started decreaseing the lenth/amount of her dream feeding, and inside a couple months we eliminated it. We would just go in to give her her binky if she'd wake up til we didn't have to do that anymore. More than likely, you'll have to let her cry sometimes. We were very used to this already, so... Babies don't need to get up that often in the night, but they will if they think you'll go in and get them.

How are things going now...after about a week? Hopefull now only 3 wakings. I sleep trained my son at 6 mo also. He was still waking up for 2 feedings and only nursing a coupleof minutes then would fall alseep. A sign to me that he was using me to soothe himself. So I gave him a lovie blanket and offered it to him and helped him find his thumb( he is thumb sucker) to soothe himself back to sleep. There is no one sure fail method for all children but I do believe consistency is the key. Make a decision and keep on keeping on till you see results or need to adjust your methods. You are the mother and you know your child better than anyone else--

Have you tried the DVD "Make A Wish Little Fish"? It is specifically designed to help infants have a restful night sleep...It is soothing, beautiful and quite effective.
