Having to buy all new clothes for your pregnancy can get expensive. There are many ways to stretch your maternity clothing budget. Look for items that can do double duty and help you to get through your entire pregnancy and beyond.
When your regular jeans and pants are getting a little tight around the waist, you can keep wearing them with products like b-buckles and Belly Bands. B-buckles attach to the belt loops of your existing jeans or pants and are adjustable to allow your pants to expand with you. Belly Bands are stretchy tubes of fabric that allow you to forgo buttoning your jeans while covering up the exposed part of your tummy. Belly Bands also work well for covering your stomach after pregnancy while nursing.
Another way to stretch your maternity dollars is to look for items that work during your nine months and after. You may also want to consider empire waist tops and dresses. Luckily, this cut is stylish and can be found in both maternity and non-maternity clothes. The empire cut allows for room for your tummy to expand during pregnancy and also hides a post-pregnancy tummy.
There are also many maternity pajamas and gowns that go from pregnancy to nursing. Look for flowing styles with nursing clasps or wrap top styles for easy pull-aside nursing access. Chemise style nursing gowns are great for lounging around the house in style after the baby is born.
Maternity jeans will be another item that will be worn longer than you may think. After pregnancy, it may take awhile for your tummy to regain its former shape. The stretchy tops of maternity jeans will be comfortable and allow some room to breathe. You can find styles of jeans without the over the belly bands that scream maternity. These look just like your regular jeans, but stretch to fit during and after pregnancy.
Lastly, check for sales and clearance items. Many times these are simply overstocked styles that can be had for less than half the cost of regular priced items, without sacrificing style.
Your belly may be expanding, but your budget doesn't have to expand along with it.
