I know many Grandmothers who work from home.  I stay in touch with a few of them and have established both a business and friend relationship with each one.  I have been in the work-at-home industry for many years, and becoming a grandma in 2010 didn't stop me from continuing to make a living online.  I have done well, and have learned so very much both from trial and error and from others.

However, working from home may not be for a grandparent who cares for her grandchildren full-time, especially if she cares for more than one.  I sure know how time consuming this can be.  I took care of my grandson full-time for almost 8 months and I had to prioritize my schedule so I could give him my full attention.  Now I just care for him 1 day per week.  Caring for your grandchildren shouldn't be taken lightly, and also SHOULD be the most important thing you do as a grandparent.  You are helping to mold these children into responsible and caring adults.

If you are a retired grandparent and have no responsibilities -- caring for your grandchildren or otherwise -- then you may be a good fit for working from home.  However, looking after the little ones part-time may give you ample time to pursue a work-at-home opportunity.  It essentially depends on many things.

Below are 5 of those things to consider:

(Please note that these are just 5 things to think about, and that you may have unique situations that would oppose you from working from home).

  • Do you have Internet access and know your way around the World Wide Web?  This, of course, is the most essential.
  • Do you have good typing skills?
  • Are you a good multi-tasker?
  • Do you have patience with embarking on specific tasks and seeing them through to completion?
  • Do you need to supplement your income (brick and mortar job, social security benefits, etc.)?

Below are 3 ways a retired grandparent can make money at home:

1.  Writing: Writing is an excellent and also one of the most popular ways to work at home.  There are various ways to make writing profitable for you, especially if you have good writing and grammar skills.

You will find them below:

  • Write articles for paid writing websites
  • Blogging
  • Writing short stories and poetry
  • Writing for various private clients that require outsourcing
  • Writing web content

2.  Paid Surveys: Completing surveys is another good idea if you do enough of them to make it worth your time.
3.  Online Customer Service: This may be a good fit for you if you have sufficient typing skills and are good with people.  Customer service jobs also may require a headset.

Above are just 3 examples that would be a good fit for grandmothers to work from home.  Regardless of what you may have heard about scams around the web, you CAN honestly make money from home.  If you draw social security benefits, in most cases, there may be an income limit for you.  This would be no obstacle, as you are free to decide on how much money you make.
