Being sick or hurt on vacation is no fun for anyone but if you travel with kids, minor mishaps are bound to happen. Be prepared with an emergency travel kit stocked with first aid items for kids and adults.
Bandages and antiseptic wipes. Fun character bandages are great at stopping the tears but pack a variety of sizes -- including at least a few large ones. If you pack a tube of antiseptic cream in a carry-on bag, remember it needs to be in your 3-1-1 zip top bag when clearing security.
Pain relief/fever reducer medicine. Include a travel size of your favorite brand. The new meltaway tablets are perfect for travel -- no more leaks to contend with!
Cup or wax paper bag. Upset tummies seem to happen at the worst times. Tuck a plastic stadium cup in a convenient spot or snag an airsickness bag from the plane. Keep this with you at all times!
Aloe sunburn relief. Even if you are diligent about putting on sunscreen, occasionally a spot gets missed.
Blister kits. Nothing stops a vacation like blisters on adults or kids. Be prepared with cream, moleskin or special blister bandages.
Hydrocortisone cream. This is a good idea to pack if you are planning any hiking or beach trips -- kids are prone to finding any substance that might cause a rash!
Homeopathic ear drops. These are a recent addition to our travel bag. Good for kids and adults, they help with water in the ear from swimming and discomfort from altitude changes.
Know the location of a close urgent care facility. Hopefully you won't need it but it is always better to be safe than sorry.
No one wants to spend a day of vacation searching for a store that carries needed supplies for dealing with a minor mishap.
